Sea Kayaking Expedition

Kayak Expedition Details

Sea kayaking is the best way to experience Alaska's Prince William Sound.

On this expedition, you'll have an entire week to explore the bays, coves and fjords of the western part of the Sound. Seeing dozens of glaciers and waterfalls, enjoying occasional hikes in the lush rainforest and camping on beautiful beaches.

As we travel each day, we'll look for a huge variety of sea birds, eagles, sea otters, river otters, bears, seals, sea lions and whales. This is true expedition kayaking, not just a paddle around a long lunch break. You'll be challenged by the remoteness, the weather and the paddling itself but the rewards can be great.

Group size is strictly limited to 6 guests and 2-3 guides. We'll be on the water by lunch on Day 1, picked up by water taxi around lunch time on Day 7.

Compare our group size and number of paddling days with other guided kayak trips.

Extras - WIthout the extra cost: Rubber boots, Heavy-duty Prince William Sound-capable rain gear, dry bags for your gear.

Adventure Details

We'll pick you up in Anchorage on the morning of Day 1. After a gear check, we'll enjoy a spectacular drive south along Turnagain Arm and through a mountain to the town of Whittier. Here we'll get outfitted with boats and gear, teach you the basic skills, and start paddling.

Exact itineraries will vary due to weather conditions and the capabilities of the team, but we'll have plenty of time to explore this spectacular area. Weather permitting, we'll travel new areas each day, and spend nights camping on the beach or in the forest.

We use top-quality fiberglass kayaks (usually doubles) which are beginner-friendly, and great for carrying loads. You'll enjoy delicious meals prepared by your guides in surprisingly comfortable wilderness camps. Needless to say, you'll eat pretty well!

No prior paddling experience is required.
You'll learn basic techniques on the first day of the trip.

Swimming ability is NOT required. We're never on the water without life jackets.

Challenge Level: 4-5; Extended periods camping in primitive areas with no facilities. Some long paddling days. Possible inclement weather. Read more about Challenge Levels.

No experience required but you must be over 18, in good physical condition and prepared for the challenges of the Alaska backcountry. Due to the remote nature of this trip, participants should be in excellent health.

Accommodation: 6 nights primitive camping.
