Each year, we choose a special, remote destination for our annual Fly-in Expedition. This year it's Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. These expeditions are usually "exploratory", somewhere we haven't even been before! Join us for this exciting 9-day trip to one of the most remote areas of Alaska. This is one of the largest, most spectacular, and least visited parks in the country. Much of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park is accessible only by air and the park is quite a ways from our start in Anchorage. We'll be making use of a couple of different aircraft to get us where we want to go. The flights alone make this trip unforgettable! Using aircraft allows you to get into the backcountry of this spectacular park. Spend your valuable vacation time out in the Alaska you've dreamed of instead of sitting in a van for hours and hours. If you're considering a visit to this park remember that it's a long drive from Anchorage. You'll want to do your homework and compare trip options. We'll start the week with a day ice climbing on the Matanuska Glacier, it's right on the way and just shouldn't be missed.
No experience required but you must be over 18, in good physical condition and prepared for the challenges of the Alaska backcountry. Due to the extremely remote nature of this trip, participants should be in excellent health. You should have an adventurous spirit and flexible attitude to join this expedition. Flights could be delayed due to weather. We will have no communication with the "outside world" from the backcountry. Check out this VIDEO of our latest Wrangell-St. Elias Expedition.

Day 1 - We'll pick you up at your hotel in Anchorage and after a gear check we'll head north to the Matanuska Glacier for a day learning the art and skill of ice climbing. Day 2 - This is a big travel day. Unlike many operators we'll fly from Chitina to McCarthy and avoid hours bouncing down the roughest part of the drive. The next piece of the adventure involves switching to small bush planes to get us into the backcountry. We'll cross rivers, hike above treeline, look for wildlife and enjoy the magnificent scenery for 5 full days. At the end of the week we'll start the logistics in reverse to get back to Anchorage. Enjoying a stop in historic McCarthy on the way. |
